Soundtrack to The Donner Party(2008)
Music for the movie yet to be made. The Donner Party set out in June 1846 for California, and encountered terrible hardship along the way. Especially bad was the time between October and January, when they were stuck in many feet of snow in the Sierras. Many died, and some resorted to canibalism to survive.
Music of the Hoh River Valley(2009)
This is a set of pieces evocative of a journey down the Hoh River drainage, from near the peak of Mt. Olympus in the Olympic National Forrest of Western Washington to the Pacific ocean. The river descends 56 miles through glaciers, rocks and then a temperate rain forest. The Hoh River Valley is very wet; it is perhaps the wettest spot in the 48 contiguous states. The glaciers of Mt. Olympus receive about 100 feet of snow a year, and the lower forests of the valley get 240 inches of rain every year. The pieces were all generated on my computer using Csound as a sampler based synthesizer. The samples are from the McGill University Master Samples CD ROM and some environmental sounds. They were written in February 2009 as part of the RPM Challenge.
